Answer
Cartilage has very limited natural healing ability because it does not have its own blood supply. This means damaged cartilage cannot fully repair itself the way bones or skin do. However, minor cartilage injuries may improve symptomatically with proper care and joint support.
1. Minor Damage Recovery
Small cartilage wear or early degeneration can stabilize with rest, physiotherapy, weight control, and muscle strengthening, which reduce joint stress and improve function.
2. Role of Lifestyle & Nutrition
Adequate nutrition, including protein, calcium, vitamin D, and collagen-supporting nutrients, may help maintain cartilage health but cannot regrow lost cartilage.
3. Medical Support Treatments
Non-surgical options like physiotherapy, lubricating injections, PRP, or stem cell therapies may help reduce pain and support joint cushioning in selected cases.
4. When Natural Repair Is Not Possible
Moderate to severe cartilage loss, especially in arthritis or major injuries, usually requires surgical procedures such as arthroscopy, cartilage grafting, or joint replacement to restore function.
