Answer
Fracture healing time varies depending on the bone involved, severity of the break, age, and overall health. On average, most fractures take 6 to 12 weeks to heal, but full strength recovery may take longer.
1. Minor Fractures
Hairline or simple fractures usually heal within 4 to 6 weeks with proper immobilization through casts or splints.
2. Moderate to Severe Fractures
Displaced or multiple fractures may take 8 to 12 weeks or more, especially if surgical fixation with plates, screws, or rods is required.
3. Age & Health Factors
Children heal faster due to active bone growth, while elderly patients or those with osteoporosis, diabetes, or poor nutrition may experience delayed healing.
4. Bone Type & Location
Smaller bones like fingers heal faster, whereas weight-bearing bones such as the femur, tibia, or hip require longer recovery.
5. Rehabilitation Phase
Even after the bone unites, physiotherapy is often needed to restore strength, flexibility, and normal function.
