Answer
Knee pain occurs due to injury, joint wear and tear, inflammation, or structural damage within the knee joint. It can affect people of all ages and may develop suddenly after trauma or gradually due to degenerative conditions.
1. Injuries
Ligament tears such as ACL or PCL injuries, meniscus tears, fractures, and sports trauma are common causes of acute knee pain, especially in active individuals.
2. Arthritis
Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic knee pain due to cartilage degeneration. Rheumatoid arthritis and gout can also inflame the knee joint and cause stiffness and swelling.
3. Cartilage Damage
Wearing down or injury to knee cartilage leads to friction between bones, causing pain, grinding sensation, and limited movement.
4. Overuse & Strain
Repetitive stress from running, climbing stairs, obesity, or prolonged standing can strain knee structures and cause pain.
5. Age & Degeneration
With ageing, joint lubrication reduces and tissues weaken, increasing the risk of knee stiffness and discomfort.
