Answer
Knee stiffness is a condition in which the knee joint feels tight, difficult to move, or restricted in its normal range of motion. It may occur gradually or suddenly and can affect activities such as walking, bending, standing up, or climbing stairs.
1. Causes
Knee stiffness commonly develops due to arthritis, inflammation, cartilage wear, ligament injury, prolonged inactivity, or post-surgical joint tightening.
2. Symptoms
People may experience tightness around the knee, difficulty bending or straightening the leg, swelling, pain after rest, or reduced flexibility.
3. Morning & Post-Rest Stiffness
Stiffness is often worse in the morning or after long sitting because joint lubrication reduces during inactivity.
4. Treatment
Management includes physiotherapy, stretching exercises, anti-inflammatory medication, weight management, and treatment of the underlying knee condition.
