Answer
Knee pain while walking occurs when the joint structures responsible for weight-bearing and movement become inflamed, damaged, or weakened. Walking places repetitive pressure on the knee, so any underlying joint issue can trigger pain during motion.
1. Arthritis
Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes. Cartilage wear reduces cushioning between bones, causing friction and pain during walking.
2. Ligament or Meniscus Injury
Damage to ligaments or the meniscus affects knee stability and shock absorption, leading to discomfort with each step.
3. Cartilage Degeneration
Loss or softening of cartilage increases bone-to-bone contact, producing pain, grinding, or stiffness while walking.
4. Muscle Weakness
Weak thigh or calf muscles reduce knee support, increasing joint strain during movement.
5. Obesity & Overload
Excess body weight multiplies stress on the knee joint, worsening pain during walking or climbing stairs.
